Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our unit was private with a stunning view over rolling hills and cows - out to the ocean. There were moorporks, pheasants and cockateils. Great location close to Matakana and Leigh. On arrival we enjoyed a glass of wine and cheese/crackers and the room was stocked with a loaf of beautiful fresh local bread, butter and spreads. A selection of cereals, fresh fruit, yoghurt. Fresh juice, spiruina and tea/coffee. Each morning fresh danishes were discretely delivered to our door with he Herald newspaper! Fresh flowers were everywhere - even on the outdoor table and chairs. Honestly it was beautiful! Bed was firm and comfortable. Stocked with everything you could need.

We were pleased to be able to make this booking as Matakana is very popular. The accommodation has a very pleasant view and you really feel like you are away from it all. The unit had everything one needed, and everything was of excellent quality. Everything was spotlessly clean and well kept. Robin and Dianne are lovely hosts, who went out of their way to assist but privacy was respected. The continental breakfast was perfect and welcome drinks snd snacks on arrival also a lovely touch. Highly recommended.

Stayed for only one night - wish it could have been longer. Lovely room with very comfortable bed and excellent outside space. We also had sole use of the sunroom, other than breakfast time. We sat outside and enjoyed the views for hours! Rob kindly booked us a table for dinner at the Matakana Market Kitchen which serves great food. Breakfast was served by Dianne who chatted with us and the other guests. Continental breakfast which was fresh and set us up for the day. This property is excellent and I would highly recommend it.

Wonderful hosts, Robin and Dianne who made us feel so at home in their home. This Lodge was in a stunning location overlooking the Omaha beach in the far distance and the fields of Matakana. Our room was perfectly comfortable and beautifully designed and decorated. The bed faced east and we could look out over the valley. Dianne brought us a tray of wine and selection of nibbles including cheese in the evening which we enjoyed on the verandah. Breakfast was perfect for us and what we would normally eat at home. We should have booked for a longer stay instead of an overnight sleepover .

Trying to differentiate between the places we stayed at ended up no 14 of 15 BBs/Lodges/Hotels based on our personal scoring between accommodation standard, hosting, breakfast and location. Not sure if the owners are really engage in the B&B life, average breakfast, room was disappointing. Location was great.

Beautiful views and very comfortable accommodation. Robin was the perfect host - very helpful without being overbearing. The wine and snacks were very much appreciated and breakfast was delicious. Great area only sorry we didn’t have time to explore further.

We were awestruck by the long & winding entrance to this lovely B&B with vineyards nearby. The breathtaking scenery was beautiful and we didn’t close the window coverings at night so we could take it all in. The room was separate from the host home and was lovely and exceptionally clean. Our host Robin greeted us and later brought us a glass of Rose and some appetizers to enjoy before going to dinner. Continental breakfast was plentiful and on the four season porch of the host home. It was again the backdrop to some spectacular scenery. Highly recommend!

Beautifully situated on top of a hill with views to die for, this B & B fails to live up to its initial [promise. Dianne met us with a 5 minute un-uninterruptible verbal download of locall attractions, house rules (we do NOT do a cooked breakfast) before disappearing. The room was poorly designed, no drawer space, no space foe suitcases, no safe; bathroom had a weak shower, small & thin towels placed as far away from the shower as possible. Breakfast was very poor; small croissants, a few pieces of toast, not host interaction. Not as friendly place; it is almost as if Dianne &Robin love the idea of running a B& B if it were not for the guests!

We had a wonderful three days preparing for and recovering from our daughters wedding. The views are just stunning as is the tree lined driveway which made for some beautiful photos. The rooms were very comfortable and well laid out and we were made very welcome. The complimentary nibbles and rose after we had unpacked were a lovely touch.

It was a real pleasure to stay a couple of nights at the Sugarloaf Lodge. The room is perfect with everything as expected. Grat view over the bay and even during a rainstorm is was amazing to look outside. Breakfast is a feast to start the day with. We recommend this place without any doubt.
