To reach your starting point, approach Ballyduff on the R666 from the Fermoy direction and turn left at the signpost indicating... more » Araglin (12km/5 miles) and Ballyduff (4km/2.5 miles). Continue for less than one tenth of a mile, then park safely where the road forks.
Take the road to the left and, after a short distance, the road will fork again. Take the right-hand fork.
The road rises gradually through a secluded wooded-glen for approximately 1.5 miles. When you reach the end of the wooded area, you will come to a low-lying glen and the site of St Michael's Well.
Travel back up the road for one fifth of a mile and take the first left turn. This will bring you onto a narrow lane. Turn left when you reach the farm and follow the meandering lane for approximately 1.2 miles before entering a forested area. After passing through this, one exits into cut wood and moorland.
Continue for another 2 miles until you meet a tarmac road. Turn right here and follow the road back to your car. Along this route, you can enjoy magnificent views of Mocollop graveyard, Mocollop Castle, and the Blackwater Valley and River.
