Points of Interest

1. Parking / trailhead.

The parking lot at the top of the volcano. Pleasant surprise to find restrooms there. Both the rim, and vent trail-heads are located here.

2. Sierra Grande

Sierra Grande, an extinct shield volcano, the tallest in the area.

3. Volcano vent

The volcano vent. The trail into the vent will reward you with views of a massive boulder field, and the thrill of standing inside a volcanic crater.

4. Cinder cone and mountains on the horizon.

Snow covered Rockies range beyond a cinder cone.

5. Pressure ridges

Signs of volcanic activity are everywhere. The plain is marked by pressure ridges, and dotted with cinder cones.

6. Lava flows

Lava flows on the plain, seen from the rim trail.
