Amsterdam off the beaten path
Tucked in a little alleyway near Dam Square, this little gem offers a bewildering array of genever (gin)-based drinks.
A beer lover's paradise, this Amsterdam institution serves literally hundreds of different kinds.
Tucked away just off Spui, this delightful collection of houses arranged around an open court is well worth searching out.
Operated by hydrofoils that used to serve the vast lakes in Russia, this is a great way to see Amsterdam's harbor. Traveling at 65kph on the way from the back of Central Station to Ijmuiden, you get to see just what a port city Amsterdam is. From the drop off point at Velsen a short bus ride will take you to the beach at Ijmuiden.
The city's largest street market is just south of the city center.
