Places to go and places to miss

  • 1. Auckland
    Auckland Central

  • 2. Hahei
    Hahei, North Island

Definitely do the walk to Cathedral Cove

  • 3. Rotorua
    Rotorua, Rotorua District

Buffet at top of Skyline is worth every penny. Two days was enough though as although the geo thermal areas are interesting, I now feel I have seen enough to last me a lifetime!

  • 4. Napier
    Napier, Hawke's Bay

Wonderful place. Was expecting this to be just a few art deco buildings but the whole place is amazing. The atmosphere is great and the cleanliness (in a very clean country) is exceptional. Recommend Pacifica to eat.

  • 5. Kaikoura Whale Watching tour
    Whale Watch, Kaikoura, Canterbury

This was excellent and well worth doing.

  • 6. Hanmer Springs
    Hanmer Springs, Canterbury

Bit touristy at the Springs and wouldn't have bothered with this one and spent the day elsewhere.

  • 7. Lake Tekapo
    Lake Tekapo, Canterbury

Amazing colour of lake and really picturesque place.

  • 8. Queenstown
    Queenstown, South Island

Very touristy and glad I only had one night here. Parking was difficult to say the least. Would have preferred to have stayed in Arrowtown which is full of character.

  • 9. Te Anau
    Te Anau, South Island

Enjoyed every minute here. The Glowworm Caves is really worth it and the Milford and Doubtful Sound trips are both worth doing as the atmosphere is so different between the two. Both great in their own ways. Real Journeys are very slick operators and there outfit is very well run.

  • 10. Catlins

Stayed in Papatowai and did an eco tour. The tour was worth it as saw lots of things I wouldn't have seen otherwise but sharing a shower with 4 others is not my
idea of fun! So recommend you check what the condition of the accomodation is before you book this sort of thing.
