The visit to the Paper & Watermark Museum, duration of about 1 hour and 15 minutes, consists of a guided tour by guides that speak Italian, English, French, Spanish and German. The program includes a live demonstration of hand-made paper, performed by the Museum's Master paper makers, viewing the antique watermarks from the 13th Century to modern day, and a film on the history of paper in Fabriano. The Museum also provides a furnished bookshop where it is possible to purchase paper products, produced in the Museum's mediaeval paper mill, artistic watermarks (white-shaded), albums, diaries, publications and much more. · It is also possible to make reservations for guided tours of the city that gave birth to Gentile da Fabriano, Palazzo del Podestà, Teatro Gentile, Portico dei Vasari, Oratorio della Carità, etc., and the 'Pinacoteca Molajoli' to the suburbs and various sites of tourist interest (abbeys, museums, archaeological excavations, Frasassi Caves, natural parks, etc.).

"I spent two weeks in Fabriano before spending another two traveling to major Italian citites: Rome, Florence, Sorrento, and Venice. Hands down, my favorite location was Fabriano. It is much more charming and easier to get to know well, while still having major attractions- this museum and the summer..." festivals, as well as historic architecture and close proximity to the beautiful Marche countryside.
As a papermaker and museum and enthusiast, I was incredibly impressed by the museum of paper and the watermark. The tour guides are knowledgeable, the museum is well kept, and the building and equipment it houses are historic and beautiful. I especially loved that the gift shop carried items made right inside the museum. This museum was the highlight of my stay in Fabriano. I would recommend it to anyone, regardless of their level of prior knowledge about paper. Either way, when you leave this place, you will know a lot more about this historic and engaging practice!

"A fantastic museum. There are information panels describing the ancient art of paper and filigree. Depending on the time of day, there are tours in English. There is a shop with great, inexpensive handmade paper and accessories - excellent lightweight gifts."
"I have been fortunate enough to visit MCF twice in the last few years. The first trip was for two weeks on the Paper/Print/Books workshop and the second was for a self-directed art project. Both trips were incredible and only possible due to the kindness and enthusiasm of all the staff at the museum...". This is truly a unique resource for all things paper. I cannot recommend this museum enough whether you are looking to research and learn about paper or just make a day trip!!! It is well worth it!
