Beautiful frescos and fantastic architecture - the story about the name is very dramatic and interesting.

To get away from the crowds on the boardwalk, we slipped inside the palace. For a few Euros, you can wander the house and take in a little history. Very low key, not fancy. Grounds around the palace are very pretty. It was open late on the weekend- think we went in around 10:30pm.

The beach area in the town is stoney and not particularly
deep. Bar is a small town where the port is probably the main employer, and is not really a tourist resort, hence the authorities have not imported sand as some other resorts have done. Apparently there are sandy beaches nearby, but if you decide to use this beach, I would suggest you use footwear

We paid €1 each to view the tree. We were the only people here. It’s a beautiful old tree. 😊
I mean you don’t have to pay - you could stand outside, but it’s €1 and I think that’s reasonable.

I am a young woman and was travelling with another young woman (early 20s). We had a very troubling experience with a group of young males trying to get into our room in the middle of the night. They were banging on the door and trying the door handle. There was absolutely no security around; there was no one we could call, no alarm button or anything. It was quite scary and we felt trapped in our room (which if you read other reviews you will find are pretty shoddy). There needs to be some sort of security on this boat. The receptionist was gone and there were no staff around.

This is not a safe method of transportation for young women, which is ridiculous in this day and age.The company needs to do better.

This was our first “great train journey” and was a very mixed experience. I wish, I wish, I wish I had MADE SURE we had window seats on the right hand side. The vast majority of the great views are that side, and unless you are in the two window seats (in the 6 seat areas) you simply do not get the full experience. We were jumping up to get a better view, moving up and down the train to maximise the impact... gutted hadn’t done that little bit more research. We knew there was no buffet or similar so had loads of food with us. It is a long journey, an enforced rest in semi-comfortable seats. But nail the view and I think it will be truly memorable
