It was nice to be protected in the pools - which are decievingly deep! Make sure you have shoes of some sort to get out across the rocks and find a good entry point. We went in for what felt like moments and and by the time we made it around and go back to where we started (or close to it) we'd be in for 2 hours! If we had known how amazing it was earlier in the week, we definitly would have gone every day. Such a gem. Do not miss it if you are in the area. One of my favourite Big Island experiences by far. We not only supporting t..."he locals but the hike was good for us, health wise. We went on May 04 and took the 5 o'clock tour. Our guide was nice, but could have done better. There were six of us in the group, some were fit and some weren't. Our guide's pace was a little too fast for the couple that weren't fit, one of them is not wearing a proper shoes for that kind of terrain. We stopped few times to wait for them. On the way back one of them sustained a bloody knee. We were allowed to do our own things when we got there. No supervision. Not a good safety practice. The tour is very laid back, do as you please.
