A world search, which also included France, Germany, North and South America as well as Australia for the ideal area with perfect conditions for viticulture, especially for Pinot Noir, brought Kai Schubert and Marion Deimling, graduates of the German Viticulture and Oenology University in Geisenheim to the Wairarapa, New Zealand. Schubert vineyards are closely planted and the unique climate produces low yields and internationally award winning wines with intense and complex character; predominantly exported to currently 25 countries.

Fully hosted, visit four vineyards, enjoy a lovely vineyard lunch and visit an Olive Grove or take the 'Pinot to Palliser Bay' tour for something different. This tour goes to the fishing village of Ngawi and the seal colonies at Cape Palliser. Enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch on the beach and a beer or coffee at the historic Lake Ferry Hotel. All tours are conducted in luxury vehicles hosted by a local who knows the region intimately. This is your opportunity to go behind the scenes, meet winemakers and producers not normally available to the general public, while at the same time tasting the fantastic produce and wines of the region.

You can help shift the sheep, talk to Basil the miniature Rawhiti buck, or his wives, collect the eggs from the hens or the ducks (if there are any!) and feed the geese (employed as watch-geese in the orchard!)You can feed the sheep and the cows and hear how we are trying to preserve some of the country's rare breeds.
