Keswick Vineyards is a family owned and operated winery situated on the historic Edgewood Estate. Owners Al and Cindy Schornberg chose this land to produce their award winning wines because of its unique terroir and beautiful scenery. Winemaker Stephen Barnard's philosophy is to focus on quality instead of quantity and produce the best wines possible. He has garnered numerous awards for Keswick's wines including the Virginia Governor's Cup for the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon and Best of Class for the 2008 Viognier. Other varietals produced include Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Norton, Petite Verdot, Syrah, Touriga, and Verdejo. The tasting room is relaxing and inviting and is open daily for tastings from 9-5.

"Visited KV late in the afternoon. Fee for tasting 5 wines is $5, no glass. For $10, one gets to taste 7 wines, including the recent big gold medal winner, cab franc, and keep the tasting glass. If you join the wine club, you get two free tastings every visit, 20% discount on all wines and other pur..."chases in their room and minimal obligation to buy wines during the year.
The tasting room is relatively small and dark which initially was a disappointment for me. But the wines and the upbeat attitude of the knowledgeable pourer made up for it! I especially loved their chard and their rose. Their cab franc, at $49 per bottle, was lost on my palate. Sorry, KV.
They have cheese and meats for sale to accompany the tasting. They also sell some local chocolate from Gearhardt, which has a store on the pedestrian mall in cville, 15 minutes away. Try the pistachio toffee. Worth it!

"My favorite part of this visit was driving up the lane, seeing two dogs lounging in the grapes, driving past a pond with a heron, black swans and geese everywhere and then finally walking into the patio and finding a very chatty cat hanging out. The wines were fine - we ended up bringing home a bott..."le of the "Wings of Angels" - one of the white wines on offer from Keswick.
Keswick ages a lot of their wines in oak which I don't like. I'm not a red wine fan for this reason. If you enjoy the oaky flavor this fermentation style offers then you will really enjoy Keswick. The "Wings of Angels" is fermented in steel containers and is very tasty. It's not a very sweet wine - it's a nice middle of the road white wine.
Our server was really nice and very informative. The last sample we had was a chocolate sauce that has some wine mixed in over a nilla wafer. It was really tasty but I thought a bit pricey. The wines are definitely boutique priced. If you don't buy a wine here, don't be too up...
