Felixstowe Attractions: Things to do in Felixstowe
"We stayed at our friends house in the little adjoining village of Trimley St Mary and only a few miles from the bustling port. It's quaint Suffolk village with 2 shops (very well stocked with local cider), a pub and an Indian restaurant (expensive and greasy bhajis).
My wife was rather hoping to..." see her favourite container ship the “Clontarf” at the port, however after some investigation we realised that she has been recently decommissioned. Boo hoo. After this bit of disappointing news we were soon to be cheered by a sighting of a very rare Pacific Swift at Trimley Marshes behind the port. We were MADE UP! This majestic bird was a sight to behold and actually set off a mega-alert amongst England’s most keen twitchers. By Saturday afternoon a police roadblock was in place to manage the throngs of excited fans of our feathered friends.
We also enjoyed a walk into Felixtowe town and were caught unawares by a torrential storm. We stumbled across a local bar called Band Box to take...

"We visited here with our English Heritage membership one bank holiday with our 2 children. There was a "letter hunt" on and a prize at the end which kept the kids entertained whilst we explored. There was plenty to see and the fort seemed to go on forever as its larger than it first appears with l..."ots of hidey holes and passages. Some great views to be had from the top of the fort over the sea and of the portside. We didn't have time but just outside of the fort was a walk that you could do with views over the sea which we would have liked to have done (this was free and was not part of the fort). It was certainly busy with walkers and their dogs. I would suggest you take something to eat with you as there was only a small souvenir shop with hot drinks and a few snacks. Also the toilet facilities are portaloos (although they were fairly clean). Parking was ample too and free. Worth a visit if you are in the area and the staff are very knowledgable (run by volunteers I believe)
