SF State Park has a quiet, rustic visitors center with a diorama map showing the locations of many hiking trails. Shorter hikes include walks around the ruins of the area's mining history. Occasionally a talk on the mines, or a ranger led hike is available. The land is beautiful but the park is passive - not active. No boating exists, no horseback riding, nothing 'active!' except hiking. It's lovely, but you need to know what you are going for... if you are looking for a Renaissance Faire.... go to that.... and not to the State Park. If you wish to hike, the park might suit you. An amusing sidelight is that we ran into someone I know from work who had locked himself out of his car but left the window open a crack.
