"Old St. Charles is a nice area for a leisurely walk through some lovely historic homes converted into shops. The homes themselves are very interesting. When you go into the shops, look around at the buildings themselves. We really enjoyed the shop that sold items you would find in the United King..."dom. There were a couple of weddings going on in the area. What a nice location to get married. It's a nice feel away from the city. This area compares to Galena, IL. The main difference is there seems to be more bars and drinking going on in Galena, but Galena is a very quiet area, no big city around. If you want the quaintness of a historic district and the option to see a large cit like St. Louis, then St. Charles is for you. Both are nice to visit, though. We visited on our Anniversary and it was really a nice 'get a way'.

"Food, gambling, a dancing water fountain, nightlife, shopping, a hotel - heck it's almost like a miniature city! It really is an interesting place to see, a place that draws such a diverse crowd of people I've noticed over the years!

There is a small gift shop & arcade just past the fountain.
There are a couple of different bars, restaurants, banquet rooms, and one big nightclub, plus a hotel with covered parking. I've only been to the casino and the Landmark Buffet over the past 10 or so years.
I'm not much of gambler, but I do like the Landmark Buffet & note they recently closed / re-opened citing they remodeled, however though I didn't inspect thoroughly I only observed a few changes. They still have my vot...
