One of the best experiences of being on the Cape- the oversand access to Race Point and Hatches Harbor. I haven't parked and walked onto the paid public section of beach in over a decade, so I can't say much on that. But as a pristine spot where you can set up with the family for the day, have a beach fire (with a permit) see the most amazing sunsets over the water on the east coast.... I can't imagine anyplace better.
My suggestions for enjoying this place to the fullest:
Go with a 4x4 vehicle, go to the NPS race point website before going. There's a list of requirements to get the permit such as a full size spare tire, a tire Guage that goes down to 5psi, a jack, tow strap etc. So make sure you check the website and know the requirements! They have weekly access passes for about 50 bucks between April and November. If you have a self contained camper, you can get a self contained vehicle sticker and camp right on the sand. Air your tires down, that is the number one requirement to getting out there once you have the permit from the ranger station/ permit office. I drive a Chevy 2500, and run my tires at 12psi on the sand. Low and slow. It's an experience to be had if you have the opportunity. Be respectful of the beach, bring a trash bag and pick up garbage if you see it, that's always nice.

An enjoyable, dog friendly stroll down a pedestrian friendly street with welcoming shops and excellent restaurant choices, parking was a breeze and reasonable, the harbor front is scenic, and the people were friendly.

No swimming for us at the end of October but it was still quite interesting to see the beach and walk along the shore. Of course, the pavilion was closed but parking was easy (there was only one other car there).

In Provincetown, we just had to visit the Pilgrim Monument and Museum. You really cannot miss it as it dominates the town. Of course, I had to climb the tower - there were great views from the top. Many cities (and other organizations) provided plaques (and funds) for the tower and I photographed some of these on my climb up (or down).
The Pilgrim Monument in Provincetown, Massachusetts, was built between 1907 and 1910 to commemorate the first landfall of the Pilgrims in 1620 and the signing of the Mayflower Compact in Provincetown Harbor. This 252-foot-7+1⁄2-inch-tall (77.0 m) campanile is the tallest all-granite structure in the United States and is part of the Provincetown Historic District.
This is a definite "must visit" while in Provincetown.

We took the shuttle and enjoyed the less than 10 minutes ride. The island is beautiful with great views of Provincetown. We found a sand dollar. The lighthouse is cool, but is completely surrounded by poison ivy. Be careful!

Beautiful views. Lots of people bicycling through the area. Lots of information about the programs offered each day. We stamped our National Park passports

Someone on the street told us about this place. Beautiful OLD library, and they have a 1/2 scale boat inside. A great opportunity to do something free, and to get out of the heat. Neat places for kids to sit and read or draw.

Just wow! The food, no matter where we ate, was fabulous and priced fair. We did a lot of walking. A fair amount of biking and shopping as well.
The kids asked if we could come back next year! Uhm....yes!

We rented almost new e-bikes from Provincetown Bike Rentals (great service and equipment). Two hours was just the right amount of time on this "bike trail like no other" (-mike riley, bike shop owner). 100% paved, rolling hills, some pretty steep. Would have been a workout on the road bikes we have at home, but e-bikes made it easy. The scenery is an amazing blend of sand dunes and woods. We started at about 10:15, arrived back at 12:15, then enjoyed lunch and a walk-about around PTown.

This is not a trail for beginners. There are a lot of hills and blind turns (you have to slow down). The visitor center is well worth seeing and a good spot to make the large loop around. Herring Cove is another good place to start but it's a ride to get to the main trail. You have to be cautious on this trail and don't go flying on down hills. Once you get to know the trail, you will enjoy it much more.

The Provincetown Causeway (Breakwater) was built in 1911. Wood End Lighthouse can be seen just to the right of the end of the causeway; Long Point Light is 1.5 miles (2.4 km) to the left.
This breakwater is the only way (other than by boat) to access Long Point. We opted not to cross.

Nice place to take gentle hikes of any length. Surprisingly uncrowded, versus downtown Provincetown (about 3 miles away).
