"We live close to Alfred B. Maclay Gardens and often picnic at the lake. So when our friend Sherry came to visit from North Carolina, we decided to take her there. We knew that she loved to see formal and historic gardens, so our local jewel was a must see. The weather cooperated with cool and sun..."ny weather with light breezes. A very helpful docent at the ticket office gave us tips about what was in bloom this late in the season. We wandered along the paths beside the lake and toured the house. Again we were impressed with the helpfulness of the volunteers and staff. We asked the name of an interesting house plant, the ranger disappeared and returned with the information. Although it was past prime bloom season, the gardens and pools were beautiful, and we spent a wonderful morning.

"Tallahassee Museum has a variety of exhibits. There is a farm homesite setup complete with the home, outhouse, animals, garden, potato house, store, etc. There is a plantation setup with old church, caboose, school, plantation house & slave house. A wooden bridge trail winds around animals such as p..."anther, black bear, bald eagle, whitetail deer, turkeys, alligator, bobcat & otters. The trail is woodsy and quiet. If your luck enough to see the panther stop awhile! he walked right up to the place I was standing, looked up at me and gave a purr & meow to me!There is a nature trail, but I did not explore it during this trip. The history of old Florida is fascinating to me and I loved seeing the various historical set ups. If you are interested in that type if thing don't miss this Tallahassee Museum.

"The "museum" consists of a main house and outbuildings dating from the 1840s to the 1920s. Easy to navigate from convenient parking. We question whether it would be too hot to enjoy as the weather warms up...to preserve the furnishings the house must remain closed up...."
