"Treated my Chinese colleague to this show as, although he'd been to West lake many times, he'd not heard of it. He started explaining the story to me but then went quiet as he was totally transfixed by it all. We had the cheap seats and were perfect. Well worth the money."
"There is a saying in China about West Lake being heaven on earth. If you're ever in the area you really must visit it, it is one of the most beautiful places in the country. There's tons to do on the islands and grounds around the lake and it seems each location has a myriad of historical anecdotes ..."and fairy tales to go with it. Take a small boat ride, don't be afraid to haggle the price. If you can find an English speaking boat captain, they'll give you an excellent tour. Don't miss the "broken bridge", thunder pagoda, and the willow trees in their full glory!

"Seeing how the monks used to live and seeing them there now all in yelliw studying, respecting the religion, taking it all in on a very hot and humid day made it all worthwhile. You can walk alot or use the golf carts. It's a very impressive large set up. Many buildings and alot of Budas: 500 in 1 b..."uilding alone. If you're into this sort of thing, it's one of China's top 10 religious sites and it's in the mountains making it all the more interesting.
