The largest museum of world arts in Ukraine was founded in 1919 on the basis of private art collection of Bohdan and Varvara Khanenkos, the outstanding Ukrainian patrons of art. Gorgeous interiors of the museum halls provide an exquisite setting for the unique collections of painting, sculpture, prints, drawings, and decorative art of Western Europe (Italy, Spain, France, Netherlands, Germany, Great Britain, Poland and etc.), and Asia (Iran, Iraq, Syria, Egypt, Turkey, lands of Central Asia and Caucasus, China, Japan, India, Tibet, Mongolia, Buriatia, Kalmykia, and etc.), as well as the arts from the Ancient World (Egypt, Greece, Rome and Etruria). The key highlights of the museum include four Byzantine encaustic icons from 6th-7th centuries. The museum offers guided tours in Ukrainian, Russian, English, German and Chinese. Individual visitors can enjoy audio guide in Ukrainian, Russian, and English. The museum exposition is open daily, except Mondays and Tuesdays, from 10:30 till 17:30. Each first Wednesday of the month from 10:30 till 14:00– free access.

"This is the center of the big country of Ukraine... We visited this street while the celebration of Kyiv day were taking place, so there were thousands of people around us, which gave it an even nicer feeling."
"I travelled to Ukraine this past week and signed up for the two day tour in advance. Coming from Canada I had only ever heard about Chernobyl in a vague sense. This tour exceeded every expectation and allowed me to fully grasp the details of the disaster. Our tour guide Vita was extremely knowledgab..."le and accommodating, her English is immaculate as well as being super friendly! She showed us as many sites as possible in great detail over the two days. I visited the site in June 2013, summer months may not be recommended if you can't handle the heat! You are required to wear long pants and sleeves to offset the radiation, which is sometimes unbearable at 35+ degrees! Vita recommended taking the tour in November. I am forever humbled by this experience and regard it as one of the most unforgettable weekends of my life.

"The Soviet Pride... This is a very big statue representing the Soviet Motherland... It is a very nice spot in Kiev, with many people visiting and quite a lot of things to see, including huge statutes of many figures from the war periods and some soviet machines nearby. The statute looks strict and i..."mpersonates the soviet feeling. I really enjoyed it. I don't give it a 5 rating because it was closed to the public and we couldn't go up to the top to get an overview of Kiev.
If you don't know how to read/speak Ukrainian or Russian, it is nice to try and guess the names of the Soviet cities near the small lake with the soldier in it.
