We drove up there on our rental van and boy, was it a narrow and winding stretch of uphill road. We suggest navigating using Google Map instead of Waze. The view of the Mediterranean sea from up there was amazing. Such breathtaking sight.

A refreshing place to relax after a long trip around Algiers. We suggest coming here on the last leg of your day tour in the city. The subway station is right in front of the garden entrance and ticket price was dirt cheap. There were many types of plants and trees. But the fountain was not working when we were there.

We just visited outside the monument and skipped the museum. Some areas under the monument were off limit to visitors. A place you need to visit. We took a short ride on the cable car from Le Jardin D'Essai du Hamma to get up here.

Beautiful old buildings and Palaces going back to the pre Ottoman's era of Algiers, the Ottomans then the French Occupation and the More Modern Times.
Some buildings have been standing for over 1000 years. Don't forget to visit The Great Mosque, the New Most and Mosque of Keshawa.
The area is getting more attention and requires further cleaning and more facilities.
Great history and interesting to see where the famous Fan Affair Incident, actually took place. The incident used as an excuse to invade Algeria.

As far Algiers' history was intentionally distorted by the French colonisators, it is very difficult to believe whatever interpretation, especially the ones presenting Algiers as an ottoman succursal. I believe Bastion 23 was a restoration project destined to avoid whatever Casbah restoration project but it had no historical evidence and is not cited in Topographia e historia general de Argel (1612).

This is certainly a grand old building and is quite a focal point for the centre of Algiers. However, it does not seem to be open to the public. It’s a busy place because of its location - it’s at the end of the most popular shopping street in the city and surrounded by popular cafes and restaurants.

Our hotel (ABC hotel) was close to this. It is full of stores and restaurants, very lively and worth seeing. It is somewhat dirty, though, like most of Algeria, with many broken sidewalks.

This is a pretty good art museum with a focus on European art. They have paintings from a number of notable artists including Pissarro, Renoir and Degas. There are a few black and white sketches from Picasso. It’s pretty varied museum that covers a large number of floors. Lots of sculptures on the lower floors.

My only problem was that there was no English signage. Also, a few pieces weren’t identified at all which was odd.

Note that the walking directions on Google Maps for this museum are poor (same for much of Algiers). You can enter on the bottom floor directly from the Botanical Garden. Google Maps took us to the entrance on the top floor via a very curved road with no sidewalks and lots of traffic. I do not recommend that route. Entering from the bottom floor is much easier and safer.

Pleasant museum mostly because of its location and scenario with great garden areas. The museum lacks modern signage but holds an interesting collection of North African art work

This is a fabulous museum detailing the history of Algeria. It is not so much about the army as it is the struggles for independence over time. The expansive exhibits covering two floors are well thought out, well signed in English and Arabic and expressive of the history. The models of old cities and battles help put things in perspective and help to visualize the descriptions. The art depicting the people, history, struggles and suffering are moving and provide their own descriptions. If you want to learn about, or enhance your knowledge of, Algerian history and the fight for independence, this is the place to go.

A mere 200 dinars gained me entrance to not only this interesting little museum but also the adjacent Museum of Islamic Art.
I was most impressed with the Roman mosaics. I left wondering why this place isn’t attracting so many more visitors.
