Your evening culminates with World Champion Fire Knife Dancer Chief Sielu and his tribe filling the night sky with FIRE! Chief Sielu is widely regarded as the best & funniest Polynesian entertainer in the South Pacific. Comparison to other Oahu luaus: Oahu Luaus: Distance. Chiefs Luau is only 25 minutes from Waikiki. Distance from Waikiki is an important factor to consider when choosing a Honolulu luau. Kapolei luaus and Ko'olina luaus are 80-90 minutes from Waikiki by bus or car as they must contend with H-1 west rush hour traffic. Star Rating. A crater resulted from the ejection of hot lava through cracks in the old coral reefs that, at the time, extended to the foot of the Koolau Mountain Range. Of special note is a monument honoring Hawaii-born astronaut Ellison Onizuka, who perished aboard the Challenger space shuttle in 1986. Also noteworthy are the Courts of the Missing, white stone tablets bearing the names of those missing in action from World War II. « less

But the biggest magnet is Ko Olina Resort with its glorious coves for swimming and sunning. Ko Olina’s newest addition is Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa that sidesteps typical Disney fantasy and focuses on celebrating the reality of Hawaiian culture, history and traditions. With the help of Mickey, Minnie and the gang decked out in aloha attire, the resort has a fun vibe that never lets you lose sight that it’s all about the Hawaiian Islands. At Ko Olina, you’ll also find two of Oahu’s most popular luaus at Germaine’s and Paradise Cove, plus a selection of ocean excursions departing the resort’s marina. « less

Constructed from 1909 to 1911, this Coastal Artillery Battery protected Oahu with its two 14-inch disappearing guns. The battery was built so well that it was unable to be torn down in the early 1970's to make way for the military's Hale Koa Hotel. The battery was turned into a museum in 1976 and begins with story of early Hawaiian warfare and covers every major military event in the Pacific theater of operations through Vietnam. The Gallery of Heroes honors Hawaii's soldiers who have received our nation's highest awards: the Medal of Honor and the Distinguished Service Cross. The Museum and the Hawaii Army Society's Museum Store are open from 9am - 5 pm Tuesday through Saturday. Audio tours are available for rent for a small fee in both English and Japanese. « less
