The Giant's House - A historic Akaroa house with original artworks, terraced gardens with sculptures and mosaics. Very Unique. A creative feast and a wonderful experience. Romantic secluded and quiet, but only a few minutes walk to the centre of Akaroa. The Giant's House was the first bank managers house in Akaroa, built 1880 of totara and kauri. It is grand in size, proportions, and features. Elegant and comfortable, it is designed and decorated in the french style. Being the home of an artist it balances and contrasts the historic and contemporary. Both the house and terraced gardens are full of surprises -expect the unexpected at The Giant's House!

"Visiting from UK, I was keen to know beforehand if this was just another tourist trip, but in Robin's own words it's the 'real deal'! He is actually the postie who delivers the mail, parcels, newspapers, & occasionally other supplies to the outer reaches of the Banks Peninsula 6 days a week. You go ..."along with him around the 120k route, & stop for an excellent picnic at a secluded bay, & other scenic locations en route. Robin is a great guy who gives a commentary via a microphone so everyone in the minibus can hear. This is a unique experience if you enjoy something different - it really was the highlight of our holiday in NZ!

"Carol and Bruce of Maison de la Mer recommended a trip on Fox II and we are so glad they did. It was absolutely fabulous. Roy and the crew were great. We were lucky enough to see dolphins on our trip - females with calves. This was wonderful and so moving. They came so close to the boat, which..." was fantastic. They even jumped out of the water for us - brilliant!

"A very good starter after you arrived in New Zealand through Christchurch! First we received safety instructions in a funny way. We all got wet suits and then, the search for the Hector’s dolphin was open! We saw many small groups and tried to swim with them. Unfortunately they didn’t want to stay c..."lose, maybe the dolphins were in a feeding mode, rather than being playful? Nonetheless, we got to see them very close, even mothers with their young. We also received hot chocolate and cookies on board. We got refunded partially when we got back to the wharf, because we weren’t able to swim with them. Nonetheless, an awesome experience!
