I pass through Beauvais a lot and I have visited this Cathedral dozens of times. It always takes my b..."reath away, the sheer height of the choir, the highest in Europe, is just amazing! How did they know how to build it so high in the 13th century? The cathedral is incomplete - there is no nave, just a choir and crossing. Chapels contain medieval stained glass from the 13th century and there is a clock, probably the oldest fully preserved and functioning mechanical clock in Europe that dates from the 14th/15th century. The sheer height has caused problems and modern methods have had to be used to keep this structure standing - but it is stunning - well worth a visit - I think, one of my favourite buildings in the whole of France!
