There are images that fill our imagination. Certainly, lying on a deck chair on a deserted island with a cocktail in your hand is an experience that is part of your dreams. As such, Animaris invites you to turn that dream into reality. The Desert Island, in Faro, is one of the islands that protects the Ria Formosa from the impact of the ocean. It is one of the greatest natural treasures of the Algarve that has been maintained in its purest and wildeststate. It has an extension of 11 km of white sand and the only relevant building built is the Estaminé Restaurant. The warm and crystal clear waters invite you for a dip. Take the time to relax and enjoy the natural beauty that surrounds the conceded area on the beach to Animaris who also provide deck chairs and awnings for your comfort. Away from the hustle and bustle that characterizes the Algarvian beaches during the bathing seasons; on the Desert Island you will always find the space and tranquillity to enjoy your privacy. The practise of non-motorized nautical sports and the wooden gangway around the Island that leads up to the southernmost point of Portugal (Cape of Santa Maria) are other options that we offer our visitors. We recommend that you start your day with a boat tour through the Ria Formosa channels. When you arrive at the Ilha Deserta settle in comfortably under the shade of an awning and enjoy the beach. At lunch time delight yourself with grilled scaled bass accompanied by a magnificent Algarvian wine at the Estaminé Restaurant. Save some time to try out the nautical sports that we have for you.

Deserta is also known as Barreta, Deserted Island or Santa Maria Cape Island. Is one of the more isolated islands of Algarve. In this island is located the southernmost point of continental Portugal.Who would think that one of Portugal’s most pristine beaches would be just at the foot of one of the country’s busiest communities? Ilha Deserta (Deserted Island), in the Algarve near the city of Faro, is a welcome respite from other crowded, popular beaches across the region. And, the adventure to reach it enhances the uniqueness of this must-visit beach. Ilha Deserta is just as its name suggests. It is an uninhabited island in the Ria Formosa Natural Park with crystal waters and a white sandy beach that rolls for miles. It’s practically unexploited nature makes it one of the most pristine beaches in the Algarve.Though quiet and tranquil, this beautiful beach still provides its users with sunshades, sun chairs and a few environmental friendly boats to rent. Its Blue Flag distinction (awarded by the European community) signifies this particular beach has excellent clear water and beach quality.Getting ThereTo get there, it is necessary to find water transportation. A public ferry departs every day from Porta Nova Pier in Faro.

"Clare met us in the morning and led us to their house where we met Mark who would be leading us on the quad biking adventure. Our group consisted of a complete novice and a seasoned rider and Mark took us through the safety briefing and the bikes' controls. We did a few practice laps and then were r..."eady to go. Mark quickly gained an undertanding of our abilities and was able to tailor the ride to suit our group. Our 4-hour tour included a coffee stop where Mark bought us some greatly-appreciated drinks. There was a good variation of terrains, with road sections, dirt tracks, rocky hills and river beds. We returned after a full 4 hours of riding to a drink courtesy of Mark and Clare who filled us in on the local sights and recommended lots of interesting places to visit and restaurants to try. Overall, the experience was well worth the price and we could not recommend it enough.

"Just be careful that it is warm enough or you pack a sweater if it may get cold - it can be a chilly ride back to the mainland. Definitely a great day/half day trip. Try to bring your own food/beverage because the snack bar/restaurant is WAY overpriced!"
"If you visit Faro you will miss-out if you don't take the boat to this wonderful island. Soooo beautiful, peaceful and "untouched". There is a restaurant that still makes it feel "untouched" and is a relaxing, friendly place for drinks or meals."
