"If wine or sparkling wine had no meaning to you, you'd still very much enjoy a tour through this amazing historic cellar, yet you'd miss out the best part, the wines, that are being made at Contratto. Wines that after the second fermentation in the bottle stay for a minimum of three years on its lee..."s, then are hand riddled and disgorged before they again stay half a year in the cellar. The result of this process is amazing. Excellent sparkling wine, made in Italy. It takes passion and patience to make wine in this way and the team that tours you through the cellar and tells you about the making and the history of the winery refelects the passion that is found in the wine. My visit was the best 90 minutes spent ever at a cellar and of those, I have seen plenty.

"The Palazzo Mazzetti is one of the most beautiful (if not the most beautiful) of the palaces of the early modern age in Asti. It witnesses the richness of the former owners, the Mazzetti family. In addition to paintings and sculptures of the Italian school (from the fifteenth century to the present) there is a nice collection of oriental art and crafts, made in the nineteenth century and ...

"Four of us were guided on a tour of the cellars by the knowledgable Luca, who showed us all the areas, told us the history of the Company and explained who the fermentation in bottle works. This was followed by a lovely champagne tasting accompaigned with salame, parmesan and fried bread - yum!
We ..."bought some wine so we didn't have to pay for our visit. Just one warning about this: their wines are all high quality and prices start from 20 Euros.
A great 3 hours overall - highly recommended!
