First time to visit a salt mine . Very cool. Both mentally and physically. Extremely hot there this past September so, a ride deep into the earth's core was the perfect fix . The history of the mine was fascinating. The docent was very articulate and easy to understand. The light show was amazing. Berchtesgaden itself is a town to behold . Highly recommend a visit . Will go back.

Great views of the Watzmann mountains. This place is a treasure in southern Germany. Lots of outdoors beauty and activity for people of all ages. Didn't bring my hiking boots on this trip, but sure wish I did.

Breath-taking scenery and astonishing views! This is a must see visit when travelling through the Bavarian Alps. This is privately owner road and the cost for the car is €8 but is is well worth it! Plenty of areas to securely park the car and head into mountains for a great walks!

We went to the newly reopened center and were very impressed. Entrance and a smartphone audio guide were free. The audio guide was easy to use and you could choose either a 40-minute tour or a 90-minute tour.

Displays included the history of the area as a tourist attraction, its Nazi history, and its current status.

On the lower level you can access a small portion of Hitler‘s bunker.

There are lockers, vending machines, an eating area, and bathrooms on the lower level.

The Eagle’s Nest (or Kehlsteinhaus for Germans) is a Nazi-constructed building at the top of the summit of the Kehlstein (1,834 m, (6,017 ft), near the German town of Berchtesgaden, pretty much hugging the border of Austria.

I visited the Eagle’s Nest not because it was used for the Nazi leaders and for the connection with Adolf Hitler who did the worst ever crimes against humanity but because of its stunning natural setting and breathtaking views.

Since 1952, Eagle’s Nest is a restaurant (indoor dining and an outdoor beer garden). It is a top attraction if you are visiting Berchtesgaden National Park. It is open seasonally from mid-May to mid-October.

The road has been closed to private vehicles since 1952 – it was too dangerous. So, you can reach it on foot (take 2 hours) or by bus from the Documentation Center (which was my choice, of course). The buses have special modifications to take on a slight angle, as the steep road leading to the peak is too steep for regular vehicles. This is a very scenic ride that winds for 7 km, rises 800 km and passes through 5 tunnels.

I highly recommend it as a must-do in Berchtesgaden!
Another check off of my bucket list!

This is Germany's only alpine National Park (established in 1978) providing protection for area mountain ranges, natural lakes and much unspoiled grounds around the southeast corner of Bavaria and the border with Austria.

During a recent visit, we spent a few days in the Berchtesgaden area and enjoyed time spent on Königssee and Obersee (lakes) as well as Janner (peak) by way of Jannerbahn. We very much enjoyed the boat ride on Königssee, light hikes along Obersee as well as a separate day hiking the grounds between the Jannerbahn Upper and Middle Stations.

The trails are very well signposted and easy to follow using basic maps as well as Google Maps. Sighted a snake, couple of frogs, numerous birds and butterflies as well as interesting plant life during our September visit. The views were very impressive on the day. It was sunny with few clouds which helped quite a bit on the day.

Overall, we very much enjoyed our limited time in the Berchtesgaden National Park. The scenery and alpine environs are quite remarkable here, leaving us with much interest to return and explore further into the park at some point in the future.

We were staying close by and passed a few times admiring the building and location. We decided to visit and so glad we did. We took the 20 minute tour and video. Our guide was great and very friendly. The video was really good and made you appreciate the effort that goes in to making the delicious schnapps! The shop is very big and full of lots of products to buy. You can sample the many flavours of schnapps too! The staff are friendly and helpful. It was a nice day so we could take time walking around outside too. I would definitely recommend a stop here.

It is not even a castle, it is palace or monastery, the most. However, it was closed and therefore we spent the allocated time in the town. Which is a gem. Small town with narrow coble stone streets, small shops and pubs, typical German. loved every inch of it, see the pictures.

Gorgeous place--church and mountains! Don't miss it. Easy access from Berchtesgaden bus station, with helpful, friendly bus drivers. Drop you off right in front and pick you up later on their return trips!

Friedhof (Cemetery) Berchtesgaden is situated behind Maximilianstraße just past the Franciscan Church. This has been the resting grounds of local residents since 1685.

Within the cemetery grounds you will find mature trees and nicely manicured grounds. There are rows of headstones many adorned with flowers and candles. It is a peaceful and beautiful scene.

We spotted a sign for this place while driving back down from the 'Windbeutelbaron', and decided to give it a try.

There's a parking spot in front, and then you walk until you reach a small gate that opens up to the amazing spot. It's open from May until October, and it's free to enter.

Falconer Wolfgang Czech can tell you a lot about the animals(birds of prey which were also used in film productions) there, and you can also walk around on your own and have a look. There is also a small area where you can sit down and feed and get close to groundhogs and if you sit still and don't scare them, it can well happen that they walk all over you.

This cable car ride seems to associated with the roller luge that is at the top of the hill. You can buy a combined ticket for both if it's open (if I understood the German sign correctly). Since there are streets full of houses at the top of the hill, I assume some of the locals use this for transportation. You have beautiful views of the valley below if you take a walk down the road to your right as you get off the cable car.

One unusual thing with this cable car ride: There's a mid point at which the cable car stops and you switch to a cable car on the other side to continue your journey.

A round trip was 10 Euros.
