You might expect to stay only an hour, thinking this museum would be too upsetting. However the stories are compelling and 3 hours can pass very quickly. This museum is...

"Like others, I found this to be far more interesting than I expected. The miniatures on the top floors are astonishing and of first class quality such as one rarely sees. The lower floors with info on films' special effects and tricks of the trade are also fascinating. There is a lift, so one option..." is to take it to the top and work your way down. Every level has an open air area with some seating, and clean bathrooms. The whole museum is in a very old histoical building that is interesting in itself.Well done in every way, and the owner is one of the miniaturists featured.Look for his constructions of old spaces now in decay--- he uses miniatures as an art form to express nostalgia, memory, and time.

"This museum does a superb job at what it aims to do--- feature the history of printing, both words and images. It is fairly technical and detailed and very well done. If you have an interest in this subject you will love it. If you don't--- well, you probably will not. There are also temporary exhib..."itions such as the one we saw on transatlantic passenger ships. The connection to the main museum's purpose was not clear---perhaps all the printed ephemera associated with the golden age of crossing the big pond by luxury liner. My husband really enjoyed that exhibit, while I worked my way through the main one (but to be fair, and to give some pespective, I am an academic whose studies touch on the history of printing.)

"The museum holds some wonderful examples of very old fabrics, but does not have any particular focus on Lyon and its silk traditions. Absent, unfortunately, are any explanations of the various kinds of weaves mentioned in the labels. Although there are promises of English translations available, the..."y do not exist (yet?). I read French well enough to make do, but if you do not the value of this collection to you as a visitor goes way down. Even so, the ancient fabrics and renaissance embroidery are fascinating.
The decorative arts museum has many lovely items--- be sure to follow the signs to where it extends into a second building across the courtyard. Among my favorite items were the sedan chair and carriage, and the proto-piano, along with the examples of marquetry.
