One of Dublin's most beautiful tourist attractions. An unspoiled gem right in the heart of the city. Founded in 1701, Marsh's Library was the first public library in Ireland. It is a beautiful Queen Anne-style building complete with the original oak bookcases. Visitors often comment on the wonderful smell of the old bookcases and books. The library contains over 25,000 rare and interesting books relating to the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, covering medicine, law, science, travel, navigation, mathematics, music, and classical literature. There is also some material of a very scurrilous nature. Every year an exhibition of rare and curious items is presented from the holdings of the Library. The current exhibtion (2011) is on medicine and medical knowledge, and the exhibition from June 2012 to June 2013 will be on the development of science.

"Loved this place, the whole thing takes about an hour to go round, and you go from room to room with the curator who tells you Irish tales about the leprechauns, fairies, banshees and so on. The guy who took us round was very funny and the stories were told amazingly well...I think my 7 year old dau..."ghter might have found it a.bit too much listening, but myself and my boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed it. And the large furniture is great...although at 5"3 I did struggle getting onto a chair!

"We had heavy cases so we decided to take the train and ferry route from London to Dublin.
The Virgin train from Euston Station left bang on time and was very comfortable and quick. It was a modern high-speed train, which took us, with some stops but without any changes, to Holyhead.
The jour..."ney through the English and Welsh countryside was beautiful. We didn't have to wait too long at Holyhead before boarding the Ulysses. It was a huge ship with every comfort. It had restaurants, bars, shops and a cinema. The seating was comfortable enough for a three-hour voyage across the Irish Sea. There was an area with even more comfortable pullman-type seating but I imagine they would be hard to get on a busier day.
The crossing was smooth and enjoyable. Using the train and ferry is a very viable option when compared to low-cost airlines operating between London and Dublin. We left London at 08.50 and arrived in Dublin at 17.30 as scheduled. It took 8 hours and 40 minutes city-centre ...
