When James Gordon and John Alexander MacPhail announced the opening of their 'centrical and commodious premises' on South Street,Elgin, on 24th May 1895 they would be proud to see it still trading today. When you visit the shop you will be greeted with the aroma of home cooked local gammon, the largest selection of the finest cheeses available in North East Scotland and shelves packed with a fantastic array of high quality grocery products. No visit to the Gordon & MacPhail store would be complete without a visit to the Whisky Room. Stocking around 800 different single malt whiskies, the Whisky Room attracts customers from throughout the world to its crowded shelves. Browsing through the wide selection of whiskies, many of which are very old and extremely rare, you have entered the Aladdin’s Cave of whisky.

Since 1898, the BenRiach Distillery has very quietly been producing quality single malt scotch whisky, which has only ever been enjoyed in very small quantities, by a few discerning individuals who have been fortunate enough to come across a bottle. Today, BenRiach continues to produce its very special Single Malt Whiskies, as an Independent Distiller. Situated in the 'Heart of Speyside', just south of Elgin, we distil whisky from both styles of malted barley, non-peated and peated. Connoisseur's tours are available by appointment only.

"I was given a voucher for a day hire of a Caterham (after dropping several hints!), as I was after a unique driving experience.
I'd previously driven a single seat race car at a track day experience, and wanted to experience the performance and handling that this had offered all over again, but fe..."lt limited by the allotted time and the confines of the track.
Having the Caterham from OpenRoadHire gave me the best of everything - open roads, open top, freedom to roam, and the passenger seat to share it with my wife, and all this for the whole day, not just a few hours. The icing on the cake was the sunshine. What an absolutely brilliant time we had.

"A fantastic day out in a Caterham by a real petrolhead. Boyd took us in, provided us with coffee and biscuits before explaining how the car works.
Never once did he say to take it easy, encouraging us to enjoy our day in the fantastic 2 seater sports car. He provided routes, approximate mileage be..."tween places and knows the region where you will be enjoying the caterham extremely well. Can not wait to return and will definitely be encouraging friends to hire a caterham from Boyd for the day or longer!

"I finally had the opportunity to fulfill the need to drive a caterham, even if only for a weekend.
We traveled over from NI on the Friday and stayed overnight at the Trochelhill guest house as recommended by yourself. Trochelhill is probably one of the best guest houses that we have stayed in. Tr..."ochelhill is a large Victorian country house lovingly restored with many original features, set in 1 1/2acres of mature gardens. Dian and Ian looked after us very well indeed.
Feeling fully refreshed on a clear and sunny Saturday morning took the short drive from the guest house to the Highland cater ham hire centre took only a few minutes. On arrival we were offered tea/coffee as the paperwork was done. The safety brief is short and to the point, a must for anyone unfamiliar with this type of car as we were. Once in the car and ready to go Boyd takes a pic (probably in case we don't bring it back), stalling the car is also a must, it'll wake you up to the idea that this a car you have to...
