Broadway Tower is a folly located near the village of Broadway, in Worcestershire. There are fascinating displays on the Tower’s history on three floors, a roof viewing platform and the Tower Shop..The Tower is one of England's outstanding viewpoints. At 1024 feet (312m) above sea level, it is the second highest point on the Cotswold escarpment. There are unrivalled views over a 62 mile radius and as many as 16 Counties can be seen on a clear day. Designed by James Wyatt in 1794 to resemble a mock castle, and built for Lady Coventry in 1799, the tower was built on a "beacon" hill, where beacons were lit on special occasions. Over the years, the tower was home to the printing press of Sir Thomas Phillipps, and it served as a country retreat for artists including William Morris and Edward Burne-Jones. Today, the tower is a tourist attraction and the centre of a country park with various exhibitions open to the public at a fee as well as a gift shop and café – Morris & Brown. Located on the Cotswold Way, it can be reached by following the Cotswold Way from the A44 road at Fish Hill, or by a steep climb out of Broadway village. Nearby is a memorial to the crew of an A.W.38 Whitley bomber that crashed during a training mission in June 1943. The site also has an Observer Corps nuclear bunker that is also open to the public for a small fee.

"We found this whilst going from one hamlet to another.
It was lovely to walk into the cafe/shop to the gorgeous smell of lavender.
The ladies running the area were very friendly & helpful & nothing was too much for them. look up their WEB site for more info you can also order products online."
"How lucky we were. The museum wasn't busy and one of the guides gave us a private tour of the ground floor of the museum. He told us all about the history of how Gordon Russell started his design and manufacture of furniture and showed us a number of pieces in the museum - encouraging us to touch th..."e pieces and look closely at the workmanship. He was obviously loving his job and enjoying passing his appreciation of the furniture on to us - which he certainly did.
I would absolutely recommend this museum - £4 each but easily worth that price for the education in Arts & Crafts/Utility furniture/History of Broadway that we both received.
And then we bought an heirloom from the shop - a beautiful fretwork tree with tealight (Sarah Pinnell Fretwork).

"This is a tiny building but it packs a good punch. The gentleman selling tickets was a mine of information and so jolly it'd have been a joy to stay chatting to him most of the day without even setting a foot on the stairs.
The tower is on four floors. There are three distinct exhibitions on each ..."floor and you have plenty of time to catch you breath between floors. While we were there the record for the oldest visitor to reach the top was broken (94 is now the age to beat!).
Floor 1 - History of the tower and inhabitants - excellent family history folder.
Floor 2 - Shrine to the Arts and Crafts movement. Small but beautifully formed.
Floor 3 - Importance of the Tower and location to the war effort.
Floor 4 - Views across the countryside from the roof (tip - visit the website and print out the visitors' document which shows you what you're looking at from up here).
Slightly expensive at £4.50 each but it did mean that even on Sundays this wasn't a busy experience and we had plent...
