Wow, what a National Trust beauty. This has to be one of my favourites. The castle/ house inside has such history & beauty & the gardens are stunning, well kept with such a variety of trees & plants/flowers. The volunteers have the upmost respect for this place with vast amounts of knowledge to share with great enthusiasm which made our visit the more special. Thank you to all the staff.

Super views. Easy and hard walks just choose your own path, you will not be disappointed. You must make the short trip to this area when visiting the North coast. The wild goats are great to spot.

Set off from Lynmouth (using the NT Trail) to Watersmeet. A really lovely walk along the river & completely helped by glorious autumnal weather.
Coffee stop at Watersmeet House in the garden and then a ‘bit’ (ha!) of a climb up towards Countisbury for lunch at the Blue Ball Inn.
Continued to walk along the SW Coastal path back to Lynmouth. With the stops, it took us 5 1/2 hours.
Husband had initially suggested that we did the walk in reverse. I’m so glad we didn’t because the SW Coastal Path walk from Lynmouth up to Countisbury would definitely have been a much harder slog.
Would completely recommend this trail and it was worth taking the NT printed instructions with us.

Saw this interesting cinema on a recent trip to Lynton. We booked to see a film (Wicked Little Letters) to try it out. Set in a small converted chapel it’s a delight and a throwback to the olden days of cinemas. Small entrance with a cheery personal greeting, and a paper ticket dispenser. The cinema has 55 seats (comfy and spacious), a smallish screen, but large enough for the room, and good sound. We spent some time afterwards talking to #billthemovie, who was responsible for setting it up and running the show- an enthusiastic inspirational man and story. If you’re in the area, check it out.

We walked from Lynmouth to Watersmeet, we enjoyed the walked and the scenery was beautiful. Stopped off at Watersmeet for a cuppa snd cream tea. We sat outside and listened and watched the wildlife. We enjoyed our walk with our 2 teenage daughters.

We only had a walk here and didn't go into pub which looked inviting. We walked the shorter walk, took about an hour. Great views. Well worth the trip here

We saw the mill as part of our visit to the castle. It was great that it was working and there are some very interesting machines in the room above the mill. I got sidetracked and forgot to buy the flour which annoyed me as I had been told it makes really good pastry.

What an experience! Loved this road and the sights along the way. Make sure you have a functional vehicle that is not too wide if you take the horse trail like roads hugging the cliff tops. Amazing nature, views and coastline. You can do it in a few hours if you just do the sight seeing spots as we did . Thoroughly enjoyable and well worth it!

I first visited Dunkery in 1971 and have made it back several times since, and have been very lucky to enjoy clear weather on each visit.
This time was an emotional trip as due to deteriorating mobility issues I might not be able to climb it again.
    Such a special place.

Really beautiful village, lovely cafes and lots to explore. Lovely historical area and it’s all very well kept. We had two small children with us and they also really enjoyed it!

Our daughter, who is an experienced rider, took two trips, two hours each. First time with the guide, who was both friendly and interested. She chose a beautiful route. Two hours later both girls returned with a big smile.
The second trip was, including another guide, with four riders. A different and also beautiful route. The very friendly owner brought ice cream. One of the horses lost a shoe, so the rider, who was a little older, was picked up. The man was offered another ride at a time at his convenience.
The horses looked happy and healthy.

Proficient and friendly guides, nice horses, and a lovely area. I highly recommend Burrowhayes Farm Riding Stables.

We love it here but I have to say that the cafe on the chalet site has gone downhill. Not very good at all but still, the beach is still very good.
