Cuatro Cienegas is a sleepy little Wild, Wild West town with a couple of decent restaurants (expect mostly barbecued meat), a small museum, homemade sweet shops, and terrible vineyards (to be avoided, unless you enjoy altar wine). The real draw are the natural wonders that can be found about a 20 minutes' drive away into the desert. Unlike some pre-Columbian sites, there is little in the way of reconstruction. As such, the experience is a bit less Disneyfied than some sites north of the US-Mexico border may be. I view that as a benefit. I'm normally pretty jaded, but to me there was a mystical quality to the place that is worth absorbing and experiencing. A word about safety.
