  "Am not normally a museum person, but it was pouring with rain so I decided to risk it. And I'm so glad I did. It shows how life was back when the gumdiggers worked the north lands, but also the Kauri tree workers. And also recreates life for settlers with rooms recreated to show how life was. It is ..."all lovingly recreated and you can imagine how life was. It is supplemented with the equipment used along with wonderful examples of Kauri and a gum room with, literally, wall to wall examples of gum.   "We had been told not to miss this museum, but as we normally steer clear of museums, we had our doubts. Nevertheless, we were passing Matakohe and decided to stop by. We are glad that we did. It is a great history of the kauri loggers, their machinery and the gum gatherers. It also has a number ..."of tableaus demonstrating the people and the times of one of New Zealand's historical eras.
