"This is a must see if you are on the big island. Plan to spend a day there as there is lots to see and do. Make sure you visit the jagger Museum right by the caldera. Ranger Travis is a native and one of the most entertaining speakers we had heard. He literally makes the Volcanoe "come alive" with h..."is entertaining and informative leature. He is great with kids.. You need to see the Thurston lava tubes while there and also drive along the chain of craters road down to the sea. The petroglphs are quite a hike so make sure you have sturdy closed toed shoes and water.
If you have the opportunity stay til after dark and watch the glow of the lava lake.

We stopped at the Devastation Trail, Lava Tube, and other random sites. The best part of the drive is the end of the road, at the ocean. After parking, walk over and check out the Sea Arch and views of the ocean from the cliffs. Next, walk down the road (about 1/4 mi) and you come across a TON of lava fr...
