This is a very nice salt mine built as a cathedral. While walking through the Christ's way to crucifixion and resurrection, you will see what can be done with salt. However, it does not give a very good representation of how salt is really mined. To learn that, you should not miss a film at the end of the excursion.... More

Sal Catedral is located an hour's drive or transmilenio ride north of Bogota past Chia. In autumn, 2011, the underground mine-turned-cathedral upgraded its lighting to LED, allowing for more vibrant colors for the stations of the cross and three naves. We went by public bus to the small town of Zipaquira, about an hour away. We enjoyed a wander around the small town, loving the contrast to Bogota. There is a tourist "train" that goes to and from the mine but we walked up and got the "train" back later. We hoped to have an English language guide which is... More
