I love history, and on one holiday we took several hours to visit this place. We weren't disappointed. So much history, plus beautiful views. Do take your time to go round it, and imagine what life was like then - in all that heat and in uniform.

You simply must make this a top priority when in Menorca. You may need a car to get here, I am not sure whether hotels do a trip. The history here is great.
If you have plenty of time there is lots to see here. The old fortress is vast. It is in pristine condition as it was never actually attacked once built. The walks do involve a lot of steps and steep slopes in a only a few places. Some of the underground passages are dark and confined. May not suit all....

A wonderful complex of over and underground fortifications. Built too slowly and too late for its own purposes, really.
One can readily understand the plan, yet see how it was of value only for the Napoleonic era.
The late addition (in the post-war Franco Era) of Vickers guns is an absolute anachronism, given the progress in military hardware that would...

This is a really interesting tour. We spent a great day here appreciating the relatively recent history to be seen. The site is very big so be prepared for plenty of walking and wear comfortable, sensible shoes as there are steps too.
The Big Guns - British made by Vickers - are huge and in working order. For those old...

history is a way to take yourself back in time to how our ancestors lived Go to la mola and enjoy the ruins and the truly historical ambience of where our british and spainish history united

It covers 1 Square Killometer and you will need at least 2 1/2 hours to visit it. We had a really good half day 4 hr looking around. There are some fantastic sites...

La Mola is an incredible fortress construction. It took years to build and when it was finally completed it was obsolete. If you like history and are fascinated by construction it's a must. Mid day you can take in the workings of the Vickers gun ... truly awesome. Not ideal if you have a problem walking any distance, but an...

my other half is addicted to the place and goes everytime we visit Menorca (up to 3 times a year). Absolutely massive site which they also have golf carts to get around on. Really different place to visit, amazing views over the sea. oh, and it's haunted too!
My wife & I were part of a tour group who explored La Mola Fortress on 6/23. What a huge, impressive fortress guarding the mouth of the 2nd largest natural harbor in the world (according to our guide!). Completed in 1875 at huge expense to the Spanish treasury, you can't help but wonder, "What were they thinking???" It was almost...
