If you go, be ready for a hike up the crater. Once you reach the top, its well worth it. You'll be glad you made the climb. I highly recommend it, unless you can't handle steep trails and steps. View is tremendous.

Wonderful hike up to the peak! Make sure to go early in the morning before it gets too hot... Enjoy!
This was a great experience! I think I lost a few good pounds getting to the top but we did it! and I had one of my boys on my shoulder most of the way up. It is very hot, not much shade and a long walk up and children can get very tired and hot. They do however get...

Great views at the top. Hike is moderate, though fairly steep towards the end. I'm not sure older people could make it to be honest. Best to take a car - if you walk from Waikiki, it's a long haul. Definitely worth doing while you are in Honolulu.
Definitely worth the hard work to walk up, the views really are amazing of Waikiki. Walk includes stairs, tunnels and steep slopes, but all fairly easy and safe. Took me about an hour and a half, but I did spend a while at the top. I would go again
This was a brilliant thing to do. Make sure you do it early though. I think it opens at 6am, we got there just after and it was already fairly busy but it was cool and just the right temperature to walk in. The walk is not too bad although if you're not generally fit you might struggle with some...

This does have a beautiful view, for sure. But it was definitely a hot hike up. We hopped a bus ride #23 to get here and then walked up to the gate at around 9am, I think the ticket was a dollar or two. By that time it really started to heat up. The best time to go is at...

Go early in the morning because it gets packed! It's windy so careful with your hat. The grey ladybugs are cute but they bite! This is not a challenging hike.
We stayed in Waikiki for 1 week. In one of the day we rented a car for the tour of the island. First stop was on Diamond Head. Despite very hot weather, we’ve had a good hike (30 minutes to the top), enjoyed the view, took some great pictures and witnessed a marriage proposal from a young man (so American!)....

We walked from Waikiki, then did the hike. It was pretty hot, but the views were worth it. Not nearly as crowded as I feared it would be. We should have started out earlier in the day to avoid the mid-day heat.
