the National Park was a great trip where we spent a good amount of time looking through the musuem and the gift shop. I walked done to the Cliff ruins and took pictures while the others waited at the top. 245 steps down which was not bad but due to the elevation of 9000 feet the climb up was a...

Over 200 stairs lead down to canyon trail (down is easy - back up is a challenge). Trail was under construction and cliff dwellings were not open. Check with staff before you go.
This is a wonderful place to be able to see how the ancient Native Americans (ca. 1100AD) lived in the Southwest. The monument is easily accessible from Flagstaff, AZ and I-40 (approx 10 mi from town). The Native Americans lived in stone dwellings they built under the ledges of the rock islands and surrounding walls of Walnut Canyon. Warning: the...

There is a very nice visitor center, with clean bathrooms. If you want to get in a bit of hiking, there is a very nice but strenuous 1 mile loop into the canyon where you come right to the pueblos built into the canyon walls. Also there is a very easy, paved 1/2 mile walk along the rim.
Beautiful area right outside Flagstaff. Interesting artifacts. Would be a national park except for the size. You can do this in a 1/2 a day.
This is not your run of the mill historic tourist attraction. While there is plenty of history to learn about at the visitor center you can take in as much or as little as you desire. The walk around the island is not a task and I recommend taking your time to step out of the real world. We met...

It's just one of those places that make you go "hummm"?? My 15 year old daughter did NOT want to go visit the monument. However, She had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the mini workout climbing back up the 285 steps. It's a very short trip from Flagstaff (8 miles) and well worth it.
Remarkable geological cliff formations and ancient cliff dwellings. We explored the cliff dwellings and the canyon environment and imagined life 700 years ago in the pueblo community. We also walked on the rim trail overlooking the canyon. Awesome!
Just go and enjoy this place, it is wonderful. Not as hyped up as other more well known parks, but has great views, nice visitors centre and a very enjoyable walk down into the canyon itself.
