Beautiful vistas on this highway to the top of Mount Lemmon. Good way to escape the heat in Tucson. Skiing in winter if weather permits. Nice area for camping or hiking - total change of topography from the valley. Plan to spend an entire day.
Many scenic stops on the way and photo opps too. It is anywhere from 15 to 25 degrees cooler than the city below (Tucson). Awesome views and great places to hike, walk or just enjoy the trees, flowers and coolness.
In the dog days of the Sonoran summer, take the Mt.Lemon scenic highway from Tucson up to the 10,000+foot peak and the little berg of Summerhaven. It’s free and beautiful. The views both distant and close up are magnificent. Been there several times and will certainly go back again. Several nice places to eat when you get up there.
A short 45 minute drive from Tucson's east side will get you to the top of a 9,000 foot pine tree covered mountain which is about 20 degrees cooler than Tucson. There is a ski lift there and depending on the whims of nature, opens for skiing in the winter.
