This is an excellent museum, tracing the art of cooking back to ancient times while focusing on the last century of American cuisine. The detailed displays on diners are amongst the finest, but from county fairs to drive ins, we learn what makes up the essence of American cooking culture. Arrangements are eye-catching and descriptions just the right length to... More

This is a fun museum in that it's not like any other museum. Everything is about the culinary arts - from the displays of historical cooking instruments to the display on the diner. It's quirky, in a very charming way. It's fun to say "Hey, I have that cookbook" or "I remember that appliance." It does seem a little disjointed... More

This place is the Smithsonian for the history of cuisine in America. The museum has a detailed history of the diner as well as histories of hotel and transportation dining. It is fun museum for anyone who loves watching the Cooking or Food Network channels.

A fun way to spend a few hours! Of course those of you who are real foodies will get a huge rush out of the exhibits which range from massive professional pasta and sausage making machines to delicate wedding cake displays. But for those in your group who might not be so into food-related paraphenalia? No worries! The diner exhibit... More

This museum is a nostalgic trip back to the origins of food preparation outside of the kitchen into steamboats, trains, planes, and automobiles and, eventually, into the limelight of television (food network). The museum takes about an hour. Unless you're a foodie, you won't miss much except some of the chocolate sculptures and wedding cake masterpieces from various food competitions.

I have to say that I work for Johnson & Wales University, the organization that owns and operates the museum. But that side, this is a fantastic experience -- just about everything you'd want to know regarding the history of food in America, and certainly in New England, is well laid out and with wonderfully insightful signage. Please note the... More

We had a few hours to burn while spending the day in Providence and decided to give it a try. A little hard to find the entrance but once inside we were presently surprised. It was much larger than I expected and had a lot to offer. Covers the history of food and cooking equipment. The price is right also.... More

If you have an hour or so - worth a visit. A relatively well done history of food, chefs, and dining spots. A bit difficult to find (how about signage?) but low key. Would benefit from an audiotape or guide but plenty to view and read.

The Culinary Arts Museum on the campus of Johnson and Wales is a nice way to spend a couple of hours while in Providence. The museum is nicely laid out, has nice exhibits and has lots of room to roam. It does not spend a lot of time on its famous graduates, which seems odd. Overall I think they did... More
