This is one of the older, more interesting cemeteries I've ever visited. There are many old graves and markers and the location overlooking the Ocmulgee River is scenic.
Beautiful grounds & Tombstones of some famous people provided their entire life story, there is also an area which contained the head stones of an entire family with kids who was killed and it tells the ENTIRE story..Kinda freaky but it is a cemetery :-) We went during the day, dont think I would visit at night, Not that Brave!!
We went to this historic (national registry of historic places) cemetery to pay our respects to Duane and Barry. Here's the way to their graves. Enter at the main gate and walk straight down the road a short distance. You'll see a sign that says Carnation Ridge. Immediately after that, walk down the steps on your right and head in... More
This is a HUGE cemetery and very well kept. It's the place of one of the Allman Brothers burial sites which is located in a valley inside the cemetery. You sort of come up on it and don't realize what burial site it is. Very interesting. Civil War markers are beautifully placed on a hill. We went during Cherry Blossom... More
Attempted to pay our respects to Greg Allman but got lost in the maze of this immense cemetery and with all do respect his resting place isn't marked in the usual tourist attraction signage. Seeing the rolling hills and very old and historical grave stones you are taken in by it's beauty. We thought it rather unusual that at the... More
Visited the cemetery to pay a small ho,age at the graves of Berry Oakley and Duane Allman but were also taken by the scale and, that word again, atmosphere and sense of history that permeates this place. Sat high on a bluff over the rail-road and river the cemetery cascades down criss crossed by a series of hard to navigate... More
beautiful, peaceful & scenic. Very historic, with some interesting graves, such as Duane Allman. Take a picture of the map at the front gate, it is so huge it has street signs
Full of history. I can't wait to go back and explore the park more. I recommend you wear comfortable shoes and clothes. Lots was trails to hike you also can ride your bike too.
My father and I visited this beautiful cemetery today to pay our respects to Duanne Allman and Berry Oakley. We got lost in the maze of narrow roads, but it was wonderful, so long as you are an experienced driver! I got chills reading some of the tombstones and driving past Soldiers Square. It's wonderful feeling like you are stepping... More
There is plenty to appreciate about this old cemetery. The history, the architecture, the elaborate mausoleum's and tombstones, the beautiful grounds keeping, the river that runs alongside it, the historical political figures from Georgia's past, the civil war section and of course, Duane Allman and Barry Oakley's burial site. This place is a must visit if you appreciate history or... More
