We stopped to walk the grounds but decided to tour the house -- good decision! The National Park Service guide gave an excellent, informative tour. The house is well-preserved with beautiful furnishings. Non-flash photography is allowed; I couldn't resist taking photos of the lovely rooms. This tour is certainly worth the price of admission.

Loved this tour as it was given by a National Park Guide. Very interesting and worth your time. They are doing renovations but it does not affect the inside of the house which is lovely.

This is a nice area home where you can stroll the grounds to understand the layout of a home in the area. We especially liked seeing and reading about the slave cabins and the way the slaves on this homestead lived

The combination of an architectural gem filled with fascinating family memorabilia and an excellent tour makes this a must-see.

We visited Melrose House in October 2012. The mansion is furnished with original items. Barney was our guide and was outstanding in telling the story of the original family and life on the plantation. This tour is not to be missed. Plan on about 1 1/2 hours. The Golden Eagle card is not valid here, but the fee is nominal.
