We visited the Vermont Institute of Natural Science on an overcast afternoon. There are many birds of prey on display. These raptors have sustained injuries, have been rehabilitated as well as possible but cannot be released into the wild. They appear to unconcerned by the presence of people as they walk by. The owls, of which there are many, were...

Where else can you view live raptors up close and see a demonstation of their flight? VINS rehabs injured birds, releasing the ones they can and keep the others for exhibits. There are all kinds of presentations for young and old, nature trails, and od course seing the raptors.
Well kept - VINS cares for various birds that would not otherwise survive in the wild. The visitor center had various displays that seemed to be well attended.
This is a nice stop near Woodstock. There are a lot of birds of prey that can be seen, most of them are rescues and cannot be released back to the wild. Which makes it somewhat comforting as you don't have wild animals that should be free.
This is a must must stop for anyone with kids traveling through the area. Great idea, tons of really interesting raptors and great facilities.
If you are a bird lover or just want to know more about the coolest birds in the area that you never knew existed, this is a great stop. Support this place and be proud you...

Excellent set of birds to go and see. A most informative talk from the handlers. There's also a nice walk through the woods. The birds there seem to be well looked after. You have to look very closely to find one of the owls.
This was soo ointeresting. Beautiful birds. They really love what they do here. Very informative and educational.
Great staff. Be prepared to take the time and sit down for one of the outdoor educational flight programs. Check ahead on their website and verify schedule. The display of raptors and other wildlife is great, but the best part of the experience is to benefit from the live demonstration. Very knowledgeable and friendly people.
First of all, the Nature Center/Raptor Center is in Quechee, not Woodstock. Second of all, don't miss it! We attended without kids and easily spent 2 hours there. Kids with other families were having a great time, as the staff went out of their way to engage children in learning about the birds. Several raptor species - ravens to owls...
