We visited this museum after we did the Lincoln home, museum, library, and tomb. It was the perfect end to a perfect day. The natural history presentation was no less than fantastic. This exhibit appeals to children and adults without being silly or patronizing. It was probably the best natural history exhibit I have seen. The museum also had an... More

This is a great museum in Springfield, IL. It sits on the Capitol complex. It covers the geologic history of Illinois and historic role Illinois has played in the history of the nation. There is a playroom in the basement and a very nice textile exhibit on the third floor. We spent a couple of hours there and felt like... More

We had a weekend in Springfield. We did 3 museums in one day & this one was the best. I love Uncle Abe, but it was nice to get away from him for just a minute. Did i mention this muesum was free? Yup, it is. It was walking distance from our hotel & right next to the Illinois State... More

This place has been a great place to be since I was in 2nd grade but I just went with my grandchildren and they enjoyed it as much as I did.

My 2 year old and I tagged along on a work trip with my husband. It was a rainy day so we needed to find an indoor attraction while my husband was working. We decided to check out the museum, I have to admit I didn't have high hopes but was pleasantly suprised. My son and I were there for... More

I love this museum! Clean, great exhibits, and very friendly people who work there. Even the security guard makes you feel right at home. It was very educational and fun!

As a quilter, I was intrigued to learn the museum was doing a special exhibit of Civil War quilts. So glad that I went. The quilts were beautifully displayed throughout the exhibit with plaques explaining bits of their history and the something about who had made them. I was especially touched by one made by a mother who had sons... More

This is a nice family place. It is a smaller museum with a variety of exhibits. You will see several Natural History exhibits including Native Americans of the area. There is a lot to keep a child's interest. Upstairs is a gallery which features changing art ehibits. When I visited in March 2013, there was an exhibit of Cival War... More

There is a newly remodeled kids center in the basement of the museum. They seem to be open almost every day (we went the day after Christmas) and it was great fun for my 3 year old. There's a jeep where you can pack supplies for your adventure, an archeology pit, a cave of sorts under a raised pond in... More

Maybe we were tired since we've been touring all day, but this museum seemed a little lackluster compared to other state museums we have visited. It is free and there are some neat exhibits and hands on stuff for kids, but the museum appears to need an update as many exhibits appear well worn. You can learn quite a bit... More
