I went Memorial Day weekend, and the second half of the hill was icy-snow covered and very dangerous. Be sure and check local conditions. I still had a good time and would recommend it.

Six of us set out to climb Flattop Mountain in Anchorage ... none of us did it. They would like you to believe that this is an easy climb, and that may be so, but when there is snow on the trail, it sure is not easy! Some of us only made it 1/3 of the way, and others 2/3...

Even though it was well into the second week of June, we couldn't hike to the summit due to the steep trails being covered with wet snow! However, the views from the lower trail, complete with a compass showing what mountain peaks and volcanoes (yes VOLCANOES! are visible from Flattop.
Hike to the top of Flat top on a clear day and you can see all the way to the cook inlet. Its a beautiful and fun hike. Only the last little bit is rocky and a little difficult. It has a pretty good grade before that, but it is a well maintained trail.

On a clear day, can see Denali and surrounding mountains. Anchorage and Cook Inlet, Turnagain Arm are also a great view from this area. One must see place to visit.
Easy for anyone that can get around. Go as far as you want or all the way to the top. A must do in Anchorage.

Deciding what to shoot with my camera became the first objective. Wonderful views and unobstructed...

We live on the hillside and frequent the park. In the winter, it has great cross country skiing. In the summer, it is a spectacular hiking area....
