I went Memorial Day weekend, and the second half of the hill was icy-snow covered and very dangerous. Be sure and check local conditions. I still had a good time and would recommend it.

Six of us set out to climb Flattop Mountain in Anchorage ... none of us did it. They would like you to believe that this is an easy climb, and that may be so, but when there is snow on the trail, it sure is not easy! Some of us only made it 1/3 of the way, and others 2/3... More

Even though it was well into the second week of June, we couldn't hike to the summit due to the steep trails being covered with wet snow! However, the views from the lower trail, complete with a compass showing what mountain peaks and volcanoes (yes VOLCANOES! are visible from Flattop.

Hike to the top of Flat top on a clear day and you can see all the way to the cook inlet. Its a beautiful and fun hike. Only the last little bit is rocky and a little difficult. It has a pretty good grade before that, but it is a well maintained trail.

I climbed this with my ten year old son. The snow/ice on one of the ledges was harrowing and slick, but we did it. The view from the top was worth it - as was the slide down!

On a clear day, can see Denali and surrounding mountains. Anchorage and Cook Inlet, Turnagain Arm are also a great view from this area. One must see place to visit.

Easy for anyone that can get around. Go as far as you want or all the way to the top. A must do in Anchorage.

I have hiked up and down the trail at Flat Top many many times over the years. It is what it is-"the most hiked mountain in Alaska", by far. It is a decent day trip type of activity. I have done it so many times now it has become boring. When the weather is nice, especially on the weekends and... More

I had very little time to view and enjoys the magnificent vistas around Anchorage. Upon local advice, I made the drive to Flattop and took one of the shorter trails due to lack of the right equipment and the amount of residual snow in May. Deciding what to shoot with my camera became the first objective. Wonderful views and unobstructed... More

Driving up to the Flattop parking lot at the end of the Chugach State Park trades you from the city of Anchorage into a peaceful, beautiful natural setting in just a few minutes. We live on the hillside and frequent the park. In the winter, it has great cross country skiing. In the summer, it is a spectacular hiking area.... More
