I had a lovely time people watching and city watching on the streetcar. Be aware though that as of May 2013 they are working on the line and so a bus takes you part of the way.

Get wherever you want to go in New Orleans with the Regional Transit Authority (RTA). Our extensive network of buses and streetcars winds throughout every neighborhood of the Crescent City. From Uptown to Downtown, from Lakeview to the Lower Nine, from Mid-City across the Mississippi River and to the parish lines, the RTA goes there.As streetcars glide underneath grand live oaks and past stately mansions, they offer up relaxing views of the beauty, charm and history of New Orleans for little cost. When riders board these historic vehicles they are boarding a piece of movable New Orleans history. The RTA operates three streetcar lines: the famous, historic St. Charles line, the Canal Street line, and the Riverfront line. All lines either run along or intersect with Canal Street in the area between the French Quarter and the Central Business District (CBD) connecting Uptown/Garden District, Carrollton, Mid-City, City Park and the Marigny. The RTA is currently adding more Streetcar lines.

Wonderful,convenient and inexpensive way to travel around Nola. I only wish we had discovered this ease of travel on day one. Brought you back to the old days.

The St. Charles line can be rather crowded but it's still a great way to get from uptown in the Garden/University districts to the French Quarter. Just make sure to have correct change in hand.

We loved the streetcars and were on and off the whole week in Nola. They connect with buses too, no need to have a car. What I liked was that the drivers were very friendly and helpful, eager to make sure you knew where to get off and connect. We visit San Francisco often and ride the buses and trolleys...

Yes, get the all day pass and ride the St. Charles Street Car. Where will it take you? It is a round trip from French Quarter (Canal St.) to Business District, Warehouse District, Garden District all the way to Audubon Park (I call this the University District as Loyola University is here). If you have time to wait, it is a fun way to get around! Be careful to be posted on any renovations, though! We found the streetcar service had been cut due to construction....we managed to jump on the buses when we encountered these surprises!

Ok, I get that this thing is convenient, but they run ALL THE TIME. At some point the drivers need to realize that having triple the amount of people than the car can handle is very dangerous. There was literally nothing for people to hold onto, and they kept slipping and falling. This included both young kids and elderly people....

You don't need a destination, just sit back and enjoy the breeze, sights and people. a nice walk is the Garden district right behind st Charles st.
