Small and you will need a tour guide, so you can get the history. I learned a lot and also learned why people are buried above ground (I won't ruin it for you).

We stumbled across the cemetery quite by accident and decided to have a wlk through. We had a nice time wondering around looking and all the names and dates of birth and death and the number of people in each cript.
This was such an unusual cemetery....nothing like we see in Illinois! We took some very interesting photos especially since there was a light rain and we had black umbrellas. We were alone the entire time but felt safe. It does close in the middle of the afternoon so go early.
It is hard to "rate" a cemetery, but the whole concept of not burying their dead and the explanation of why and how is the interesting part. The age of some of the tombs and the number of family members listed is interesting in a melancholy way. I did not take TOO many pictures - it did not seem respectful.
It was a very interesting stroll thru the cemetery The culture and the reason for the above ground tombs really blew my mind.
This cemetary was in the middle of a gorgeous neighborhood. It was pleasant to walk to from the streetcar (get off at Washington). Even though it was spring there were leaves down in the cemetary so it felt like Fall. It was definetly one of my favorite parts of vacation.
Just walk through on a walking tour or by yourself and you can see layers of life in New Orleans. Much needs to be done to restore this cemetery, but attempts are being made. We walked this by ourselves and I am very glad we did.
The cemetery is different in that all the graves are above ground because of the water table. You have small mausoleums It's something very different
Enjoyed walking thru the park-like setting of this cemeterty. I really enjoy funereal art and was surprised there was not a great deal. The above ground crypts and inscriptions were interesting. A guided tour would have yielded more info on the inhabitants of this city of the dead.
