Unique shops, interesting restaurants, and yummy dessert shops make for a fun Saturday afternoon with friends and family. The night scene is also great for people watching and going out on the town. It seems very safe, clean, and easy to have a great time!

I've been in Madison for 20 years. State Street has always been a staple in visiting and in living on campus. Charming historical buildings-no cars getting in your way, nice little local restaurants and businesses. I think it is about to change. Big plans for more multi-story, newer buildings on State Street may ruin the feel of everyone's favorite Street.... More

We were encouraged to go to State Street. It was okay but nothing I would think "wow". We went in and out of some shops. I guess if you are there and want something to do, you could take a stroll. I will say, there was some construction going on so it might have lessened the atmosphere. Maybe it is... More

Just plain tacky...some decent shops but not worth the hype. Think Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco.

We found State street great for eating, wandering and going to the Comedy club. There was not much shopping to do, although the stores there are very nice with lots of unique items. Great for walking.

My wife and I spent a Saturday evening on State Street during a recent weekend trip to Madison. We were both somewhat disappointed as it was not as clean as we were expecting and also it was not very lively. We were there on graduation weekend, which should have been really busy and lively. There are several shops and restaurants... More

A great people-watching street, full of all kinds of restaurants and stores. Connects the State Capitol with the University.
