If you are in Kerala, then this is the first thing you should do. Either book a houseboat for a whole day or take a ride in Shikhara for 5 hours (don't go for anything less than this). Relax on the boat while it goes around the backwaters. You can stop by at any restaurant and taste fish delicacies and... More

Never venture out in the backwaters in the rainy season, or in a stormy weather, especially in small boats(shikaras), larger boats (called motor boats, or big house boats) maybe fine...small boats easily get caught in such squalls and topple and drown...always insist on life jackets...and go for newer boats, if possible see the condition of the boat before booking one....you... To see Kerala Backwater is amazing, one of my dream to boat on such a place with my better-half. Take a round for 3-4 hour. But all are advised to bargain before taking boat as I felt they try to cheat as much as possible. When I asked one of boat owner he told me to charge Rs. 750 but... More

Wow, boat ride on the back waters is most enjoyable and relaxing. Miles of backwater- arge lakes probably some of the largest. Get to see the way of life as one takes a boat ride through the smaller channels- countryside. Ferry service for the passengers was interesting. Sometimes as boats came close to each other esp the bigger houseboats, wondered... More

First, as I mentioned in my review of the houseboats, you do not get to see the backwaters from a houseboat. You need to get on a small boat to go through the canals, but this has become too commoditized. The canals are nice, but I think this is not a place to come from far away. Nice if you... More

Kerala Backwaters is one of the best places of entire India. Nowhere in the world you will ever get to see this. We cannot compare this beauty with any other places in the world. The long stretches of the backwaters give a breath taking view. With coconut trees on both sides of backwaters and variety of houseboats on this water... More
