The museum is quite modest in size but tells the story of the settlement of the area and the feud between the French (there first) and the Spanish quite well. Sadly, it also very clearly depicts the demise of the Timucuan people after the arrival of the Europeans, largely from diseases previously unknown. The reproduction of the fort is interesting,... This French wooden fort differs from the rest of the Jacksonville area forts because it was not made of bricks. It was in fact recreated in a interpretive fashion because the original one was destroyed and then burnt down by the both Spanish and the French. The fort structure is small and because it was recreated, there is not much... More

Lovely place to hike and picnic. Gorgeous, really. I do wish there was a little more to the Fort though... but overall worth the visit!!

This is always a highlight for the kids. See this fort along with the Casillo de San Marco in St. augustine for contrasts in historical periods. Be sure to take water if the weather is warm!

Not very big but worth a look. Good walking paths in the park. The story of the fort is interesting in itself and since it's a national memorial on my list of places to see.

By itself this attraction isn't very meaningful or impressive. It consists of the visitor center and a 1/3 scale reproduction of a French fort built in 1564 when France was trying to get toehold in what was then Spanish dominated Florida. The fort is mostly timber uprights surrounded by a simulated moat. There is also a 1 mile nature trail.... More

History and walking trails, you can even bring your four legged friends! Make sure to bring water, a snack, and bug spray. You can choose to follow the short trails or make your way through the entire area. This is also a great place for trail running.

The fort and surrounds tell the story of the colonisation of this part of Florida. Of particular interest here is that there was a French colony here which was ousted by the Spaniards. Very interesting to hear the history of this part of Florida with it dating back over 450 years.

A visit to the memorial gives you a basic lesson in the colonization efforts made by the World powers in the 1500's in Florida.

I live 5 minutes away and adore this place. If you love the outdoors, walking through beautiful natural landscapes trails, seeing wild animals in there world take time to enjoy a peaceful stroll in one of Florida’s amazing parks. Best time to go is in the cooler month less bugs and more birds.
