What a wonderful venue. It has been restored to beyond its original splendor. The design of the facility lends itself to almost perfect acoustics. Go early enough to take the time to walk around and pay special attention to the ceiling in the main theater and all the touches through out the Plaza

It is a beautiful, old theatre with an old outdoor hacienda feel. It was once deemed to be destroyed and made into a parking lot. It would have been a tragic loss. Any evening at the Plaza will be a memorable event

We have been to the Plaza several times for different shows. The last time we were there was for the El Paso Holiday SYmphony Orchestra. They have a huge variety of shows. Due to El Paso's location on the 1-10, we are fortunate enough to have large Broadway-type shows stop for a night every now and then. The Plaza is... More

I was recently in L.A. and went to the formerly called Kodak Theatre to watch a Cirque Du Solei show and I expected a huge theatre since this is how it looks in television but it wasn't that big. The Plaza it's not far on beauty and size from one of the most famous theatres in the world.

It's one of those old theathers from the 1930s that was totally redone and converted into the City Theatre, thanks to the effort of El Paso Community Foundation. They have a very good broadway show and concert season every year. Check the calendar of events at http://visitelpaso.com/cpac/plaza_events. We went to see Wicked and had a wonderful time. Beautiful restoration! I am more impressed with it every time I go back. The architecture is exquisite. This is something El Paso can really be proud of. I've been in both orchestra and balcony seats and both areas had wonderful acoustics. The outing reminded me I need to take advantage of visiting the Plaza more often!

The Plaza, first opened in the 1930's, fell into decline over the years and finally closed in 1989. In 2006, as part of a broad based, years-long community effort, reopened as the premier entertainment venue in El Paso. The classic Spanish style uniquely fits our region, in a way few restored theaters do for their towns. (The Kimo in Albuquerque... More
