Castle Island is beautiful and a great place to walk around, with views of Boston, various islands, the harbor, etc. On a nice day, take a picnic and enjoy the scenery.

You can't beat Castle Island for a pleasant day with the family or even alone. There is swimming, picnicking, lots of grass, benches, barbeque grills, walks, the ocean. I enjoy walking and sitting on Castle Island. I like the cool breeze while walking over the board walk and watching the planes fly over my head. I have brought family members both adults and kids who also enjoyed it.
If you want to do something peaceful and relaxing then this is for you. Getting to walk and take in the beautiful city with great company was by far my favorite part of the trip. I wouldn't pass this up for its such a nice talk to take in the scene.
the place is basically a historic fort now closed. but the surroundings are very good. very big open space with green lawns and giving you a view of boston,the waters,islands and airport. there are many benches there to sit but would recommend to bring your own chairs or lawn mat to sit on,coz it the spaces can get full on... Besides it's Historic Value- The views of Boston, it's Harbors and surrounding Islands; the thrill of seeing the planes larger than life descending and ascending to and fro Logan Airport right above your head. There is a place Where GOOD inexpensive food abounds...from Hot Dogs to Clams Ice Cream and Shakes - It's a great treat. one word...YUM!
Great day trip in the city with views of Boston Harbor and City Skyline pus tour the fort or take a picnic. Lots of family activities including bike riding , swim area for little ones, Sullivan's for Hot Dogs and fishing from a pier-- plenty of parking as well.
Likes - sullies - great spot for an ice cream or hot dog; fort independence- try to check online to see when it's open such as Halloween...grat running loops; playgrounds for kids.. Cons - parking can be difficult at times, and sometimes rest rooms could be cleaner.
